Report Cards 12/1/2021

Hello Hesperian Families,

I hope you all are doing well and staying safe as we approach the end of the 2021 calendar
year. First trimester report cards will be available on the Aeries Parent Portal for all San Lorenzo
Unified elementary school students on Friday, December 3. Directions for Accessing Report
Cards in Aeries.

These report cards will look a little different than in past years.

 Fewer standards were assessed first trimester, which means more standards will be
slashed. We spent the first six weeks in a Restorative Restart. We welcomed students
back into the building and focused on getting to know your children while building
strong relationships. We also spent time adjusting to teaching and learning with the new
COVID protocols.

 Although this year is different from previous years, the report cards remain the same.
Students are being evaluated in relation to grade level standards that do not take into
account the pandemic or the year of distance learning.

 Despite that, our teachers are looking for evidence of progress, not perfection.

 In addition to a numeric grade (1-4), teacher comments will provide more detailed
information about student academic/behavioral strengths and/or areas of concern.

 As always, if you have questions or concerns, reach out to your child’s teacher.
As the vision for the San Lorenzo Unified School District states, we are working to build critical
thinkers, readers, writers, mathematicians, and scientists. We are striving to support our
students to be advocates for social justice and change.

Please keep in mind that across our nation, students and schools are in the same situation. The
term “learning loss” has been used in the news, but it’s not a term that we are using in San
Lorenzo. No learning has been lost during this pandemic. Students learned different skills that
may not be reflected on our standard report card. If you have questions about this, please feel
free to reach out to me.

Thank you for all you are doing to make sure your children are healthy, at school regularly, and
ready to learn.

Sincerely,
Linda Santillan
Acting Principal
Hesperian School
